SPOILER ALERT: THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS A BIT OF INFORMATION ON ALL GAMES IN THE PICTURE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
The time has finally arrived when gamers, video game creators, and other video game enthusiasts unite and watch The Game Awards host its newest ceremony! This year’s game awards will be taking place on December 7th at 8:30 PM AST at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Every year, a variety of video games are chosen to be part of a specific category. For example, one of my favorite video games, Splatoon 3, won the Best Multiplayer Game category last year. However, at the end of every award ceremony, the Game of the Year award is announced after a lovely orchestra plays video game music. At the same time, a presentation in the background shows the nominated games.
This year, the nominated games are Alan Wake 2, Baldur’s Gate, Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Bros Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I have yet to play any of these games. Therefore, I need to figure out which game to vote for. I did some research on each one, so here’s some brief information on each game.
Alan Wake 2:
Alan Wake 2 is a single-player video game based on the first one and is a survival horror game created by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games. You are playing as a man named Alan Wake, and you continue your journey to escape an alternate dimension in which you have been trapped in the last game. You can only attempt to leave the dimension by writing a story about a lady named Saga Anderson.
Baldur’s Gate 2:
Baldur’s Gate 2, according to Fandom.com, “is the second computer role-playing game in the Baldur’s Gate series, taking place just a few months after the events of Baldur’s Gate. It is based on the 2nd edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons role-playing system. The story is set in the Forgotten Realms, the most popular D&D story setting.” This is the only role-playing game created by BioWare and published by Black Isle Studios to be nominated for Game of the Year in this ceremony. Most of the other games are action or horror-based, so seeing this game get nominated is quite exciting to see!
Spider-Man 2:
Spider-Man 2 is a single-player action-adventure game where you can play two popular Spider-Man characters: Peter Parker and Miles Morales. As you play, you will have to fight the danger that lurks while protecting New York in the process. Insomniac Games and Marvel also created this game. While this game is a continuation of the first game, there are plenty of new bosses, new abilities, and new costumes in the game.
Resident Evil 4:
Resident Evil 4, made by Capcom, is also a single-player survival horror game where you play as a special agent named Leon S. Kennedy. In this game, your goal is to save the US president’s daughter while also fighting enemies that a parasite has infected. While this is a continuation of the past games, you don’t have to play the games in order, but if you would like to get a better idea of the game, it’s best to start from the beginning of the series.
Super Mario Bros Wonder:
Super Mario Bros Wonder is a multiplayer game created by Nintendo where you can play a variety of players such as Mario, Luigi, Toad, Toadette, Yoshi, Daisy, Peach, and Nabbit. While all the other nominated games are single-player, this is the only game to be a multiplayer game! Here, your goal is to help Prince Florian, work with your friends, and stop Bowser from destroying the Flower Kingdom who is… a castle? Huh, the things the Mario series does to entertain gamers are pretty unique, am I right?
The Legend of Zelda (Tears of the Kingdom):
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is created by Nintendo and takes place years after its last game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This game is a single-player video game, and here, you are playing as the protagonist, Link. Your goal is to save Link’s companion (and most likely lover), Zelda, and to stop the Demon King, also known as Ganondorf, from gaining power and destroying the world plus Link’s town, Hyrule. However, this is only one time Link has had the liability to protect his world. In other games, Link must fight a Ganondorf in a different form, so we can infer that Ganondorf is just pure evil and his motivation to destroy the world is for power.
After watching a few videos on each game, I’ve decided that I will vote for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom this year. The story’s lore, music, quality, and distinctiveness intrigue many people, including me. However, all other games are good, and I had a tough time choosing between three of them. But enough about me, it’s time for you to decide! Which game do you believe deserves the award as Best Game of the Year? You can vote here at https://thegameawards.com/. May the best game win!
