It’s now time: a new Splatfest is here! You’re probably wondering, “Joel, what is a ‘Splatfest’?” To answer that question, a Splatfest is an event limited to those who play a video game called Splatoon 3. As stated in a previous article of mine, this is one of my favorite video games, and Splatfests are events with a specific theme. With that particular theme, you can choose which team to be on and battle it out to help your team win the event! These usually occur two to three times every three months, so seeing an event out of the blue can be delightful! From January 12th, 7 PM, 2024, through January 14th, 7 PM, 2024, players worldwide could play in the event for two days until the event ende, andd the results were announced.
As you can see from the picture above, the theme is: Who do you spend the holidays with? Friends, Family, or Solo? While you might not have the game, you can still decide for fun! So, let’s discuss.

To start, we have friends. Friends are an excellent way to celebrate a holiday because they are like your second family. You can play games, eat together, spend quality time, practically anything! You don’t always see your friends, so meeting up with some friends for a holiday would be great! Also, holidays bring people together, and as a result, you can bond and get closer to your friends. By having friends, holidays can be more exciting and thrilling.
Next up is family. Family is very similar to friends. Holidays are a time for unity, bonding time, and quality time. With family, you can strengthen your bond with your siblings, parents, grandparents, pets, and anyone in your family tree. Usually, when schools get off on holidays, it’s so that you can take a break and celebrate the holidays with your family. Schools never mention anything about celebrating holidays with friends or alone. Hanging out with family is crucial since family bonding is a necessity in life, and having those people with you for most of your life will make things much more fun.
Finally, we have to celebrate solo. For tons of holidays, you’re not required to celebrate. But if you do, then it’s your option on whether you want to celebrate with others or not. Celebrating yourself can be tedious and might lack excitement, but it can sometimes be peaceful, relaxing, and just a time to kick back. But maybe you’re thinking, “Well, I don’t want to stay home during the holiday, so what could I do?” You could go out to your favorite restaurant, go shopping, do a fun activity, and treat yourself to a few things. There are lots of things you could do! According to “7 Tips For Spending The Holidays Alone” by Eugene Therapy, something else you could do is do things when you were a child. Old memories could definitely be fun to recreate, so maybe celebrating holidays yourself isn’t so dull after all.
But let’s hear what the West community has to say. Of course, there is no prize, but it’s all just for fun. I created a poll asking the same theme in the picture of this article, and here are the results.
POLL:

12.5% of both juniors and adults voted, and 37.5% of both seniors and sophomores voted (no freshmen voted). Out of all the people who voted, 0% stated that they would rather hang out with friends, 100% voted that they would spend the holidays with family, and 0% voted that they would spend the holidays alone. Woah! Family is the most critical thing in the West Community, huh?
So, what did I choose for this event? Well, my vote went to Team Family. I already spend my holidays with my family. Ultimately, Team Solo was victorious in the video game with 57 points. Team Friends and Team Family tied with 0 points. Wow, we got swept. But overall, the whole thing was a fun experience, and we can only wonder: what will the next theme be this time around?
