As the queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey, begins to defrost and sing her big hit “All I Want for Christmas is You” in November, just wondering, do you think it’s too early to put up those Christmas lights and start chanting Christmas songs with your friends and family? I mean, it’s only November; we can’t possibly start now, right…?

Well, I asked many Cherry Hill HS West students for their opinions. The prompt was: “Is it too early to celebrate Christmas?” Here’s what our peers had to say!

Jorge Vasquez-Home, sophomore, DECA student, and previously on the Freshman Volleyball team, states, “Yes, it is too early for Christmas because Christmas is after Thanksgiving, and you can’t just ignore Thanksgiving. Also, decorating early for Christmas is very overrated, but Christmas itself isn’t overrated at all.”

Marianna Delucca, a sophomore, swimmer, and lacrosse player, said, “Eh, no. While it is kind of early to decorate, you should begin to get into the Christmas spirit, yet you shouldn’t go immediately into decorating.”

Sam Henderson, a senior and varsity football player for West, states, “Yeah, I’m a Thanksgiving guy, so I would wait ‘til the week of Thanksgiving to start decorating, but if you begin to start celebrating Christmas the day after Halloween, then that’s just… no.”

“Yes, it is too early for Christmas because Thanksgiving hasn’t passed yet, and Thanksgiving is before Christmas,” says junior and varsity soccer, basketball, and lacrosse player Christopher Williams.

Finally, Aziah McNiel, a senior and varsity track runner, says, “I don’t think it’s too early for Christmas because it’s right around the corner after Thanksgiving and the two holidays work hand in hand if that makes sense.”

So overall, what does West think about Christmas being mentioned so early in November? Well, they are 50/50. Some people believe it is too early, and others believe it is the perfect time to begin decorating and discussing the beloved holiday. But what do I think about Christmas right now? I think it’s way too early to start decorating for Christmas. Sorry, Billy Idol, but it might not be the right time to think about riding in a one-horse sleigh. You might want to save your song until December.
