We all know that the greatest time for movies is the summer. You’ve got your blockbusters, comedies, dramas, and more. They all have greater accessibility since you’re free from school. However, as it would be redundant to recap these movies now that they’re out of theaters, I’ll give an overview of all the noteworthy movies you can expect this fall instead.
Coming out on Friday, the 21st of September is the gritty, science-fiction, cop movie Dredd. Starring Karl Urban as the namesake protagonist in a post-apocalyptic America, Dredd focuses on the only force of order in this wasteland, Judges. Possessing the power of judge, jury, and executioner these agents of the law ruthlessly put down the criminals that control the streets of Mega City One. Dredd must rid the city of its latest scourge to preserve the fragile order he has fought to create.
A week later Looper arrives in theaters starring Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (sporting some serious facial prosthetics to bear a resemblance to the former) as Joe. In a future where organized crime controls time travel, they use technology to send their enemies back in time where they are promptly murdered by special assassins called “Loopers”. The only rule of this arrangement is that they cannot let the target escape. Simple enough, until Joe’s target is revealed to be himself from 30 years in the future. Caught between his obligation and a reluctance to kill himself Joe must do whatever it takes to stay alive.
On October 5th Bryan Mills, the man who “will find you”, is back to rescue his family in Taken 2. After Mills violently rescued his daughter from a group of Albanian human traffickers in the previous installment, they are back for their revenge. Taken 2 is probably more of the same thing, but for fans of the original that’s not a bad thing.
A month or so later on November 9th, the new Bond movie Skyfall arrives. Starring Daniel Craig, Judy Dench, Javier Bardem and newcomer to the franchise Ralph Fiennes, (Harry Potter, Schindler’s List) this is shaping up to far surpass the previous two chapters with ease. Though plot details have been scarce so far it is known that Bond’s trust in M will be shaken and that MI6 will come under a dire threat.
Finally, a week later the Twilight saga will end at last with part II of Breaking Dawn.
This brief preview of upcoming movies should keep even the most diligent moviegoer busy.
