Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat: An Interview with S. Hutchinson, the Lead of West’s Fall Musical

Ava Palmer, Staff Writer

Hutchinson will be playing the lead role in the upcoming musical at West, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. As a staff writer for the Lion’s Roar, I interviewed them about their role, the show, and everything in between!

Q: What is the synopsis of the musical?

A: It’s a bible story so it takes place many centuries ago. There’s this man named Joseph who is his dad’s favorite and the youngest of the 12 brothers. He has this talent of interpreting dreams and his brothers are very jealous and don’t like him very much.

Q: How many people does the cast consist of?

A: The cast is made up of 42 people.

Q: Describe your role in the musical.

A: I play Joseph, and he’s a very caring but slightly oblivious guy. He’s a dreamer and a family man. He’s a man of strong faith and he is determined and resilient.

Q: Have rehearsals begun yet? If so, what is the environment like?

A: The rehearsal process has just started and so far it’s been great! Everyone is very warm and supportive of one another.

Q: What are you most excited about for this performance?

A: I am most excited to be able to have a ton of fun singing and dancing. It’s a very bubbly show a lot of the time and I think it’ll be fun for the whole cast.

Q: When does the show open?

A: The show opens the first weekend of December (2nd, 3rd, 4th).
